Getting the Magazine

The magazine is published 4 times a year and can be found on our website, www.tiesmagazine.org (you're on it right now.) Ties is available in PDF format. This type of file enables us to present the magazine exactly as it would appear in print. To view PDF files you need Adobe's Acrobat Viewer. This program is free and can be obtained from Adobe's website.

Since there are many different types of internet connections and some are faster than others, we have a couple of ways for you to view our magazine. The first way is similar to receiving a copy in your mailbox, that is, you get the entire magazine at once. The other method is to receive one article at a time. This means the file is smaller to download and those of us with slower internet connections won't have to wait as long to read an article.

The image below points out how to access either version of Ties.

As shown, you can view the Table of Contents by clicking either the Table of Contents link, or the cover image. From the TOC page you can choose any individual article to download and read. This is a handy way to read Ties!

Next to this link is the Entire Magazine link. Now, you could just click this link. Adobe Acrobat would open and the PDF file of the entire magazine would begin downloading. The drawback to doing this is that as you read the magazine some parts of may not be completely transferred. You could be reading an article and a key image or diagram may still be downloading. For this reason, we recommend downloading the entire PDF file to your computer first, then reading it. Here's how:

If you are using a Windows computer, right click on the link for the "Entire Magazine." You will be given a menu like the one shown below. Click "Save Target As" and you will be able to place the file wherever you'd like on your computer.

The process is similar on a Macintosh computer. Instead of right-clicking, hold down the Control key as you click on the link. Depending on what browser you are using the wording may differ slightly. In any case, clicking the menu option for "Download Link to Disk" should result in a new window opening up, prompting you to choose a place to save the file.

Saving with a Windows PC Saving with a Macintosh

Shown below are examples of the "Save As" windows from a Windows and a Macintosh computer. From these windows you can select where to save your copy of Ties. We recommend saving it somewhere that you'll be able to easily find it later. One great place for both Windows and Macintosh computers is your Desktop. This way whenever start your computer Ties will staring at you, waiting to be read.
